Show Pigs

Dr. Craig Jones began working with show pigs when his two daughters were small and began showing through 4-H. He quickly realized that there were not enough veterinarians doing show pig work in our area so he set out to learn as much as he could to ensure that his daughter’s show animals received the best care possible.

Show Pig Services currently provided include:

  • Castrations
  • Pee pocket surgery or removal of the preputial diverticulum or “scent gland”. This procedure will minimize the pooling and discharge of foul-smelling preputial fluid. Removal of this gland creates a smooth underline to belly, which is preferred in the show pig industry. This is frequently performed at the same time a pig is castrated.
  • Psuedorabies/Brucellosis testing for shows.
  • Vaccinations
  • Health certificates

Dr. Jones also works with many local families to help with show sheep and goats.
